Abraham’s Apple

When we were first talking about starting this blog, I made a vow to myself to do my best to write as much about the NBA as possible, without focusing solely on my Washington Wizards. While I am still hopeful that this is a possibility, I just couldn’t hold this post back.

With about a month until opening day, today was the NBA’s Media Day, when teams throughout the league kick off training camp with all kinds of press conferences and photo shoots. Now I’m sure that there were plenty of things that happened today that are worth noting, but one thing in particular screamed out to me. Behold, Deshawn Stevenson and his new tattoos:

From what I understand, he has three new tattoos on his FACE, in addition to a new one of Abraham Lincoln’s FACE on his own neck. He got his one year old son’s name, Londyn, tattooed along his hairline, which I haven’t found a picture of yet. The other two are a backwards pittsburgh pirates P, and a crack on his forehead, a la Frankenstein. Mike Jones of the Washington Times asked him some questions about these tattoos:

The thing about the P is, however, that it’s backwards and looks more like a 9. DeShawn tried to explain, “No, if you’re standing where Dom’s standing and looking at me, it looks like a P.” Dominic McGuire was standing directly in front of him about 10 yards away, but it still looked like a 9. I think DeShawn meant to say, “when I look in the mirror it looks like a P.” The final new tat is a crack on the left side of Stevenson’s forehead. He said it’s because “I don’t crack. I feel like people always try to break me, but I don’t crack. So, I put that there.”

I don’t really know where to begin to understand what is or isn’t going through that man’s mind. If I were really proud of my ability to hold up under pressure without cracking, I’m not sure that my first order of business would be to go ahead and get a crack drawn on my head. Not to mention that it appears DeShawn doesn’t understand how mirrors work…. I will leave it up to our imaginary readers to make sense of it all in the comments.

Thanks to Truth About It for the photo’s, and Mike Jones at the Times for the, um, explanation?

  1. The Creeper says:

Deshawn has picked up right where Tyson left off. I only hope he shaves his own facial hair harmoniously with the Lincoln tat. Dunk on a cracked rock.

  2. Thomas says:

Maybe the P tattoo was the unfortunate outcome of him trying to give himself a tattoo in the mirror.

  3. i have a laundry list of questions that will never get answered. apparently Deshawn’s only sane moment recently was when he called himself crazy for predicting a 50 win season for the Wizards…

check out John Taylor’s post over at the Washington Times for some appropriately professional photos (by Peter Lockley) that really do them… um… justice?

Thanks for the link, Those close ups are ridiculous.

10 blog points to the first person who photoshops deshawn’s face onto abraham’s neck.
